How we got here? And a little bit about us....
I found out at 5 ½ months I was having twins. From this point on I wanted all the easy choices to make my life streamline. However, cloth diapers was not one of them.
My husband and I hired a diaper service. A diaper service was still cheaper than using disposable diapers. Once a week my allotment of cloth diapers arrived from the diaper service. I then had to find time to fold all these diapers in thirds. It was time consuming.
My mother -n- law had made me a set of these contoured cloth diapers for my baby shower. She had used these on all three of her boys. Her good friend had also used these raising her 4 girls. I thought,
“ This was old generation, and I am not willing to have my hands in the toilet all the time, let alone all the time I was going to spend washing them. I can’t do this with 2 new babies. I was just trying to survive on a daily basis anyway.”
My husband and I took a month work/holiday to Australia. The twins were now 5 months old. I figured it would cost us a lot more using disposable diapers than the diaper service was charging for 1 month. I wouldn’t have a car while my husband was at work. So that left me with a double jogging stroller to do all the shopping. I could just see myself hunting down diapers, groceries and baby food every couple days and carting all that back to the apartment. I would be worn out on my shopping days. Carting the kids out and pushing all the groceries back to my apartment. What a lot of work!!
So I decided to give the contoured cloth diapers a try. I was really dragging my feet. But, how would I really now how horrible this might be without having first hand experience. HOW EASY!! This puts all those horror stories to rest. My biggest concerns were pins ( yeah, no pins required) and the second concern was the cleaning of the diapers. I didn’t want all my spare moments cleaning diapers and I never wanted my hands to see the inside of the toilet…..even with rubber gloves on.
Anyway to all of you out there that didn’t even give cloth diapers one thought, please let my testimony encourage you. We are saving $1,000 a yr. It is such a great feeling.
We are expecting our third child and will shortly have 3 children in diapers. We will be saving $1,500 a yr. This is a down payment on a car, boat or a really nice annual vacation.
Good luck and enjoy the money your saving. This is truly a diaper that can be much easier than our last generation.
